Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you love Math? I do and I want the same for my students! I teach a wonderful group of students at a Title I school. Over 64% of the students are Hispanic and learning the English language.

My students are eager to learn new things and want to be successful, especially in Math.

Due to the language barrier and other socioeconomic factors, my students are not currently working on their grade level. They do not have the necessary prior knowledge or materials at home and have fallen behind their peers in Mathematics. Many of them are not enthusiastic about learning Math because its overwhelming for them.

My Project

If this project is fully funded, my students will have the necessary materials to gain the skills needed to catch up to their grade level. I have learned that place value and number sense are the key elements to understanding math, and the Sequence Numbers and Sensational Math Place Value activities will help deepen their understanding of base ten and place value. These skills are something that my students have not mastered, and its affecting their learning of additional skills. By using activities such as the Dice Works, Sensational Place Value Disks, and Even Stevens Odd, I can build on their understanding of place value. Many of my students struggle with reasoning and problem solving, and the Explain Your Reasoning Math Prompts would be a great resource for my students as well. My students love to play games, and the Tower of Math games for addition and multiplication would be beneficial for them to practice these skills while having fun! The Daily Math book and the Mathematics Intervention activities will assist with differentiation so that I can help individuals target the areas of Math that each of them needs. The other materials, such as the pencil sharpener, supply center, and additional ink cartridges, will ensure that we all have the necessary materials to be successful in our interventions.
