Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Let us kick off a great school year! For the first time in over ten years the Teacher's Choice Program funded by the City Council, has been suspended. This program gave us the opportunity to purchase materials for the classroom, therefore allowing us to maximize our students' learning experiences.

I am a fourth grade teacher in a New York City Public School in a low-income/high needs area.

Over half the student population of the school are currently classified as English Language Learners. My class is made up 100% of English Language Learners from many different backgrounds ranging from children who were born here but learned another language as their first language to political refugees. Regardless of where they came from, they are extremely motivated and are eager to learn and acquire English as a second language.

My Project

I am asking for everyday supplies such as looseleaf paper, markers, glue sticks, tape, etc. that will motivate my students to want to keep working hard and learn by making it fun! Although these supplies seem like they they do not cost a lot, they run out quickly and need to be replenished quite often. In this economy, my students, and their parents can use all the help you can give.

I am asking you to think back to your school days, to think about how exciting it was to get to use all those new markers, pastel colors, tape, and all the other great supplies and help us kick off a great school year!
