Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 3rd graders are amazing knowledge seekers and full of questions. They absolutely love engaging in learning with their classmates and participating with each other everyday! My students come from diverse cultural backgrounds, and many of them are English Language Learners or special needs students and come from low socio-economic households. Each and every one of them is unique with their own set of special strengths and abilities.

My students' motivation and eagerness to learn is their biggest and most significant strength!

They are inner-city kids facing many challenges in this time of crisis in our country, but they wake up every morning, happy and ready to learn and engage with their school family. They are a most amazing group of kids that will surely have the brightest of futures!

My Project

My students are enthusiastic 3rd graders who love to share in the experience of reading together and sharing their love of reading with each other. Together as a class we have dived into the most amazing class read alouds and enjoyed listening to each others' thoughts and ideas about what we are reading. They have learned to respectfully listen to each other's opinions and engage with each other by making connections to each other's lives through the stories we read together.

During this new experience with Remote Learning, I want to continue instilling in them that thirst for knowledge and love of reading.

Even though we can't really be in the same room, questioning, laughing and commenting together, I want to be able to continue bringing the experiences we had in our classroom through our virtual read aloud sessions. What better way to do this than having our last read aloud be "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing" by Judy Blume? Perfect ending to a not-so-expected end of the year!

As future 4th graders, they will be able to engage with a classic story that has brought much laughter and fun to young readers. The BEST part is that we will be able to read it together, just like in our classroom, laughing until we cry with Fudge's antics and Peter's brotherly struggles....and all the while having the best time...together still, even though far apart.

Besides having their own copy to help them read along, they can keep them as a cherished memory from the end of 3rd grade and be able to revisit this wonderful story throughout the summer to help improve their reading skills and build their reading stamina.
