it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My school is located in an impoverished neighborhood in Hartford. It is one of the poorest cities in the country. Despite facing economic and social hardship, the students continue to strive for a better tomorrow. Students come to school often to escape the extreme poverty, family conflicts, and their life circumstances. School, for most students, is a seven and a half hour break from their sad daily life circumstances. It is a haven, where they get the warmth and comfort from teachers and staff, educate themselves, eat breakfast and lunch, and belong.
As a Registered Nurse, besides taking care of the special and medical needs of the students, I help educate students on their medical needs; I teach students breathing and calming techniques in the health room.
The students are taught to be independent and learn to take care of their medical needs. For example, all the students in the health room are taught how to independently use their own inhalers correctly. They learn to become aware of their allergens and triggers for asthma. They also have to teach other students and their families about asthma care and the correct way to use an inhaler.
My Project
Our students come from low socioeconomic below the poverty line income households. Most parents and guardians are unable to afford to buy replacements masks and send students without masks. The teachers are also unable to continue to buy wipes and hand sanitizer for classrooms all the time. Without the supplies, the students and teachers cannot stay healthy and safe from COVID-19.
To keep students and teachers healthy and safe in the classrooms and to continue with a healthy learning environment, we need face masks to replace lost, damaged and soiled ones, sanitizing wipes to clean classrooms, and hand sanitizer.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
