Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a fifth grade teacher in an urban setting, I teach an active group of ten and eleven year-olds who are eager to learn. But, keeping their interest can be quite challenging! Fortunately, they will dive into reading current magazines and hold to them as though they were treasures.

Many of my students have barriers due to living in poverty, having learning differences, or being a new English language learner.

Daily, I impress upon them they can be SMARTER! By teaching them how to overcome their situations, they will become better learners in the long run.

My Project

Setting up a "reading" station, students will have access to four different "weekly" magazines designed for children: Current Events, Current Health, Current Science, and Read. By ordering only 10 each, it creates an atmosphere of being more special. It also encourages them to further pursue information. This type of resource always enhances instruction.

Being able to share current "print" information with my students will allow them to correlate what they see on television with what they read in the classroom.

Opening students' eyes to a new world is one of the perks of being an educator! Your support of this project will be greatly appreciated! Please do consider offering kids a new view of the world! You will be going above and beyond THE CALL OF DUTY, for sure!
