This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

OUR BENEFICIARIES This year, 2014-2015, I have wonderful high school math students (grades 9th -12th).

Unfortunately, the math skills of many of my students (68%) are below grade level according to state tests. Student work confirms the state test data.  Through reflection on student work and research on how to best help my students achieve math literacy and proficiency, I have come to the conclusion, that appropriate technological tools will help them better access the math literacy required to graduate from high school and to achieve success in college and in the work world.

My Project

OUR PROJECT Our project requires a class set of headphones that will allow students to confidently, and comfortably interact with online math programs such as Learning Upgrade and khan Academy. I envision my students more actively engaged in achieving the math literacy and proficiency so important for their college and career success. Based on my knowledge of my students I believe that they will feel much more confident knowing we have headphones for them. Headphones will make a big impact on students' individual learning. Headphones in conjunction with Khan Academy online math programs will afford my students greater access to the math concepts that otherwise are so difficult to comprehend. Without headphones we cannot customize the learning for each student. Our idea is also to create a classroom where students can enter knowing that they will be provided with the basic materials such as paper, graphing tools and fun activities to learn the required basic statistics.

I am expecting many aha!

moments in the classroom once each and every student has a headphone, and the availability of materials becomes a reality. All of this and much more is needed to ease the learning of so many math skills for my students. My students will greatly appreciate if you make this project happen.
