This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Welcome to my diverse middle school Math classrooms of young intellectuals and problem solvers. I work in the Bronx New York, which means that my students come from all over the world. My classrooms have representatives from 5 different continents and over 15 different countries. Many of my students are first generation Americans or immigrants themselves who have come from: Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, The Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Ecuador, The Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Greece, Italy, Albania, Yemen, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

My hope is to use technology as a tool to differentiate lessons and provide students opportunities to gain the problem solving skills that they need to be successful in the classroom and in life.

My students bring a variety of life and educational experience to the classroom. These different experiences provide both educational benefits and challenges. Some of my students have interrupted educations due to living in places of conflict, while others simply did not receive an education in mathematics that parallels the pacing of the common core. I work to provide an education in mathematics that meets students where they are and pushes them to meet age appropriate goals.

My Project

By providing my classroom with headphones I will be able to utilize different technology based learning systems to provide my students with fully differentiated and individualized education programs. Of course my classroom with still involve group projects and important class discussion based learning. However, many of my students do not yet have the mathematical skills to fully engage in 8th grade math content. My hope is to use technology to fill their gaps in understanding so that I can ensure they are on grade level and can be successful in a high school mathematics classroom. This may be the first step to ensuring that my students are equipped to succeed in college.
