Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is geared to presentation and portfolio assessments of student work. If I had a set of video recorders, my students would be able to videotape their presentations they work through and discover solutions to problems for themselves, and preserve them for their portfolios.

As part of the science curriculum, students are required to write hypothesis; record data; sequence events in a chronological order; analyze results; draw conclusions based on the data; and then synthesize the information into new hypothesis.

These are all necessary components of any valid experiment. The process also helps students to discover new ways to solve problems and fosters creativity. And what better way to share their learning and ultimately their findings, than by videotaping the process from start to finish.

My Project

Creating a video record of laboratory activities and research projects would be a tremendously useful tool. Students can use the photographic record to recall and review important events as they proceed through an experimental process; as well as salient aspects and break-through moments of their own learning process, and thus better prepare themselves for their careers in college. Digital recordings are also a way to instill fun into the learning process. Students love to be filmed. If they know that they are being filmed, they'll become more involved in the act of learning. More involvement translates into better retention of information, and ultimately, better test grades.

As digital videos are easily shared, each student can down-load them.

The videos can then serve a permanent record of their learning experiences, high school friends, and the time spent in their science class. Please help me bring video technology to my students. Help me make lasting memories. Thank you for your generosity.
