My Students

Our student body is predominately black. Most students that attend the school live in low income/poverty and don't have the bare necessities to compete in competitions.

My students research and advocate on everyday issues that affect them and their community, such as constitutional rights violations.

This class consists of 11th and 12th Grade Law Studies students, most who've never had the opportunity to compete on this level. The students love learning about their constitutional rights and how the state and federal court systems operate. I love to watch them grow through community service and in legal knowledge. Our students also serve on the EBRP Teen Court as Judges, Lawyers and Bailiffs, among their peers.

Students participate in Moot Court and Mock Trial Competitions against other area high school students and have even gone on to compete nationally. In the past years our students have placed first in the Regional Brennan Marshall Competition. Last year one of our students' won second runner up in the Marshall Brennan National Competition at Rutgers University and was also a recipient of the 2021 Thomas "Tommy" Rankins Award. Please help my students go to court equipped with everything they need.

My Project

On March 11, 2022 our students will compete in the Region III High School Mock Trial Competition preliminary rounds at the 19th Judicial District Court in Baton Rouge. The Final Round(s) will be held on March 12, 2022. In mock trial competitions students advocate on issues that affect their community.

If my project is funded the students will have the appropriate attire that identifies them as a team when participating in competitions and planned community activities, alongside their counterparts.

Most of the students can't afford to purchase the apparel needed for the competitions on their own, because of financial restraints. This funding will give our students a sense of confidence, unity, pride and also serve as a reward for their dedication and hard work.
