This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My upcoming class will have a variety of needs, and I want to provide them with all the options I can to make their 4th grade year the best it can be!
My students are eager to learn and try new things, but they have the odds stacked against them.
I have general education students and special education students as well as students learning the English Language in my classroom. I am a fourth grade teacher in a low-income urban area in New Jersey. More than 90% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
I am privileged to have been at the same school for over 20 years. Our school is in an urban area. Many of my students face daily challenges including limited support at home by parents, trauma, and poverty. Despite these challenges, the climate of my classroom is nurturing and sets high expectations for all students.
My Project
I would like to introduce a new incentive to instill a deeper love of learning. At the end of the week, my fourth graders can earn the privilege of participating in Glow Friday. The addition of the glow materials, flashlights, and lamps will allow my students to have fun sitting in the classroom while we glow.
The change in atmosphere with the glow-in-the-dark materials will add the right touch of fun to the end of a week of hard work.
