Did long division give you trouble in school? My students have trouble too! We want to be master mathematicians!
Oh my goodness!
Perhaps being overly cliche, my students are the best! They work hard and never give up when they face a challenge. They love to be engaged in their own learning, taking charge of what needs to be accomplished. They are truly an incredible group of 4th and 5th grade kids!
Our school is small and rural, everyone knows everyone else! Students and their families are immensely proud of our school district, always lending a hand and caring for each other. I know that I can always count on a parent volunteer to be available!
My Project
Math is so crucial to success! My students have been working so hard to participate in online based math programs like Khan Academy and ScootPad. The downside is that our computer lab has limited availability, and the computers are slow and out of date. Students spend more time reloading pages than they do practicing math! I am frustrated and so are they! The new iPads would allow students better technology so they can be more productive online. Although the five iPads would have to be shared amongst students, they would be grateful for more efficient practice time. I would love to work with small groups during math class, have other students working independently or in groups, and other students doing their online math practice. Students in such a technical age would thrive with website or app based math practice. They find computer time motivating and I would like to use that to their educational benefit.
With students who have limited Internet access, if any, the opportunity to further their math and technology skills.
Students can use programs on the iPads that will help them keep track of their own skills and learn to be responsible for furthering their education. Khan Academy has shown to be beneficial to math classrooms around the country, I only want to see my students receive the same positive opportunities!
