A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are young, bright, individuals with a positive outlook on life. They believe that succeeding in education will give them an opportunity to excel in the future. My students discuss their dreams of going to college, learning to read, and of course making money. They deserve a chance at making their dreams a reality, but unfortunately, this is not always true.
My students are underprivileged living in a community surrounded by poverty and violence, however, they are filled with hope and optimism.
They have experiences that the average adult could not imagine. Statistics show that they are not on track academically with their peers in more affluent cities. Yet every day they come to school ready to learn.
They raise their hands, work hard, and participate. They constantly push themselves to be the best students that they can be. My students should be provided with all of the resources necessary to have an adequate education but unfortunately, we don’t have basic supplies or tools during the school year. The quality of my students’ education should not be determined by their zip code, but unfortunately, when they are not given the proper resources they are not given a fair chance.
My Project
Virtual learning has its fair share of challenges, technology and supplies at home are by far the biggest obstacles. While the district has taken on the challenge of providing adequate technology, parents and educators have been left with the responsibility of ensuring their children/students have enough resources to effectively keep up with the instruction provided during virtual learning. Guaranteeing students have enough pencils, crayons, markers, manipulatives, storage places, and other items can vary depending on student and limit their participation in virtual learning.
Kindergarten at home is not easy, kindergarten is rooted in the ability to learn foundational skills from hands on experiences and I want my students to still have this opportunity through the resources provided in this project.
The goal of my project is to be able to provide my students with resources that we can use together as we are learning synchronously and asynchronously. Kindergartners need to be able to learn how to count, and this is best done with tangible objects They will be able to use dice, cubes, and play doh balls to help them make sets and numbers. Learning to write is also fundamental. They will need journals, pencils, crayons, markers and dry erase boards, etc. All of these will allow us to learn in the same manner that we've learned in school but at home. And, I couldn't forget the most important piece - storage. Let's face it, young kids can lose things, but providing them with storage bins and pencil boxes to keep their items in one location will allow them to reasonably manage their supplies.
Help us make our at home learning experience virtually the same as our in-school experience! Help me provide supplies to all of my students to help them learn virtually!
