Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title 1 school located in a low-social economic neighborhood near Downtown Los Angeles, 100 percent of the student population qualify for the free or reduced lunch program.
The students in my classroom are students with learning disabilities but they come to school everyday with a great big smile on their faces.
My class is made up of students with a range of disabilities, such as Autism, Intellectually Delayed, Health Impairments, and Specific Learning Disabilities. Many of them have physical challenges as well that impair their learning but they come to school eager to learn and take on new challenges.
My Project
Students with special needs require additional support to help them learn basic skills such as sharing, engaging in conversations, take turns, and social skills. The Social Skills Activities will assist me in providing fun engaging activities that will help my students understand how to cope with their anxieties and/or frustrations. The Photo Conversation Cards are especially designed to to meet the needs of students with Autism, which is why I believe they will help provide support to help build my students social and communication skills. Students are more engaged when they are taught through hands on materials, which is why I would like to provide them with tactile educational activities such as the Playfoam numbers and shapes.
