This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I provide social-emotional learning to a group of amazing elementary school children who possess unlimited potential for greatness. My students are on the autism spectrum, have significant cognitive delays, are severely emotionally challenged, are sensory impaired, hearing impaired and/or are multiply disabled.

My school is located in a low-income neighborhood and all of my students receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch.

My colleagues and I try our best to be creative with what we have, in our attempts to balance the playing field for our students. We strive to provide our students with experiences and opportunities that will expand their idea of what is possible for their future and to communicate to our students, that they are valued.

My Project

Students of varying abilities will use the modeling clay to create facial expressions and figures to help them better understand emotions. Kneading, rolling, and flattening modeling clay provide my students diagnosed with sensory processing difficulties an opportunity to relieve stress and reduce feelings of anxiety and worry. Students will ask each other questions using the social emotional cards to improve their emotional intelligence, boost their confidence and their social skills.

Donations to this project will help purchase items to support students of varying abilities during lessons devoted to improving their social emotional learning and overall emotional regulation.

This modeling-clay is non toxic and cards have been vetted.
