My Project

In order to learn how to become better readers, thinkers, and financially educated members of our society, my students desperately need materials such Robert Kiyosaki's "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" in economics class to better understand how money works. Using these materials, students will build realistic budgets with wealth-growing strategies in mind, craft job-hunting tools beyond their existing networks, and position themselves to thrive in our society.

My students attend a low-income urban school in Philadelphia and hail from a variety of backgrounds, many of whom will be the first in their families to face the challenges of attending high school, college, and beyond.

They are academic and driven young adults who are determined to reach the heights of achievement in college, despite a series of systemic disparities and barriers of race and class they face every day.

Long-term social change is enacted not by catchy political slogans or through committed educators, but through our youth engaging in school, educating themselves through smart financial planning, and maintaining a society built upon the ideals of a multi-racial democracy.
