My Students

Can you imagine getting up every day with your mind racing in a thousand directions? Yes, of course you can, but you are able to take those thoughts and rationalize and compartmentalize them into what's important and what's not so important. My student's need something more.

I work in a NYC DOE District 75 school.

D75 schools are specialized schools where all of the students are severely disabled, either physically or intellectually. It is a high school/ occupational training center which is solely geared toward post graduation (21 years old). All of my students are classified as having autism, some more severe than others. But I see potential in every one of them. They have there own personalities and idiosyncrasies as any other human being. I do my best to bring out the best in each one.

My Project

I am requesting yoga mats to implement the Let's Get Ready to Learn program. I was introduced to this program started by Anne Buckley-Reen a year ago. It is based on the principle that a student can be better equipped to learn when certain physiological components are triggered. These components are triggered by the use of certain yoga positions that better prepare a student to receive information. This program has proven to be most beneficial to children within the autism spectrum. As students with autism is the population I teach, I attended a workshop given by Anne. Her description and rationale of the program along with the data from extensive research was more than enough evidence to know this would help my students achieve all that they could. By implementing this program at the beginning of everyday day, I could almost ensure the optimum learning condition for my students to be in. I ask Tony and Nanar Yoseloff to help fund this project

This project is so important because I want to give my students every opportunity to succeed.

I will take every measure, explore any possibility that will better enable my students to contribute to society after graduation. I once again, ask Tony and Nanar Yoseloff to help fund this project. It might not be about financial literacy specifically, but I will incorporate financial literacy into my students curriculum.
