My Students

"The greatest gift is a passion for reading." —Elizabeth Hardwick My students show a great passion every day for reading. I want to help them to keep that passion. In order for them to be great readers, it is my job to ensure they are given all the resources needed to become successful.

I work with an enthusiastic group of kindergarten and first graders.

They have a deep passion for reading, but need materials that will provide them with accurate phonemic awareness. My students are very motivated to read but lack in resources. Our school funding does not cover all the materials my students need to be successful readers. Many of my students come from a low socioeconomic home. We are not given much outside support. It is important that my students are gifted with resources that will help them to become successful learners.

My Project

I would like my students to build their phonemic awareness. I requested alphabet tubs. Each tub represents a letter and in those tubs contains objects. These hand held objects will allow my students to visualize the objects. it allows them to make relationships between the objects they see, the sounds they hear, and the letters they write. My students need hands-on materials to help engage their learning. Having a rack in our classroom will help organize our alphabet tubes. This will allow us to keep materials from being damaged. This specific resource will allow my students to make connections. I have also requested magnetic letters for my students. This will allow for my students to recognize how letters can act independently and how they can connect to create new words. I truly want my students to be successful readers and I believe these additional materials will be beneficial.

Reading tools are beneficial for any child.

These materials that I have chosen are extremely beneficial for my students. My students have the motivation and excitement to read, now they need the resources. They are soaring readers and with more resources can become even better readers. A project such as this for my students would impact their learning in a way in which they can make connections to the words, letters, and sounds around them.
