My Students

My students are all on the autism spectrum and require adaptive physical education to meet their individual unique needs. My students range from kindergarten to 8th grade and most require maximum support to take part in physical education. The students come from low income families and attend a high needs school with little or no resources and not enough funds to meet the students needs. The students have a smile on their face and are excited to learn when they enter my classroom. The students require adaptive materials to meet their needs in physical education. My class is often the only chance these students have to participate in movement and sports.

My Project

Many of my students are unable to join team sports or even play at a public playground without maximum support. Most of my students will come home from school just to watch TV or play video games. They often spend their weekends indoors without engaging in any physical activity . The materials I am asking for will help my students enjoy physical activity and increase social skills and environmental awareness. The materials will be used as stations in my classroom to help vary the students interest and encourage them to try new activities. I will also invite the parents to see how different materials can increase physical fitness and stamina.

The trampolines will be used to increase motor skills and improve many areas of coordination such as balance, agility, rhythm, and timing.

The move your body deck cards and move & grove card game will be used to get the students up out of their seats and burn some energy while learning to follow directions. The tunnel will be used as part of an obstacle course to foster experimentation and build core strength. The balance board duck walker will be used as a center to implement both gross motor and vestibule exercises. The giant bowling game will be used to increase physical activity that promotes hand and eye coordination, balance, and friendly competition. The set of zoom balls and zip balls will be used in a center to increase social skills while enhancing eye/hand coordination as well as a great upper body workout.

The purpose of these materials is to increase physical activity while having fun.
