Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like to go out to PE with one ball and a few broken jump-ropes for your whole class? Our school has been hit hard financially and we are in need of classroom equipment. Developing movement on the playground is vital for all students.

My students come from very diverse backgrounds.

But one thing they all have in common is the desire to get out and run, jump, gallop, race, throw, catch, and kick. Our school is a K-6 Title 1 school made up of five Special Education classes (25%), six English Language Development Classes (50%) and four mixed Dual-Language classes (25%). There are many varying levels in our classrooms but yet each child is excited about learning.

My Project

All resources will be used to meet students' Physical Education Standards. The balls will be used to practice throwing, catching, kicking, and dribbling. The Shake and Move Ribbon Bells and Activity Scarfs (and the CD) will be used to teach spatial relationships (e.g., over, under, behind), boundaries, and movement patterns (underhand, overhand). The resources will enhance PE lessons and children will understand the characteristics for sharing, working with others, and being an effective partner.

First grade students should perform moderate to rigorous activity three to four days a week for increasing periods of time.

Musculature and endurance continue to be developed through activities performed on the playground. These resources will help students practice and build foundational skills learned in Kindergarten.
