My Students

When you pop into my room there are always hands flying in the air, students asking questions and a lot of curious eyes roaming around. Coming from a high poverty area, for some, school is the best part of their day. "We all want things, but I am determined to give you what you need". My motivation!

My kids are eager and determined to be the best that life has to offer.

They are goofy, compassionate, and caring. They might not have much, but they appreciate what they have. Being in a school with few resources in a very poor area, we try our best to make due with what we have. Anything helps!

My Project

Each day, we spend two hours reading. Yes, two hours. That's how important reading is! The children spend part of that reading time listening to a story where they are asked engaging questions to help them with their critical thinking skills. The rest of that time is geared towards small group instruction where students are in centers working on reading skills that apply to them. The materials I am requesting: comprehension passages, sight word sentence practice, and word pattern cards will be greatly beneficial. Having these activities will allow for so much extra practice, even when I am not sitting right next to them. Allowing them to work on these skills also allows them to be independent and think on their own without someone helping them. The more activities, the more practice, the better they will become as readers!

If we receive some of these resources, my students on all different reading levels will benefit.

We are constantly trying to bridge the reading gap and give my students the education they deserve. Some of them come to me barely knowing how to read, and it is my job to give them all the resources and skills possible to be successful.
