My Students

My students are a group of highly energetic, amazing children with autism in grades 1-5. Many students with autism have difficulties in learning new information, communicating and social interaction. These difficulties are often compounded by sensory overload that they experience daily.

My students are energetic, enthusiastic learners.

The students I teach range from mild to severe on the autism spectrum. Finding activities that can encompass all my little learners can be difficult! I teach in an urban elementary school in Wisconsin with a high poverty rate. All of my kids have excellent attendance and have a love of learning!

My Project

Organizing is so important to help kids in both school and at home. It is a skill they will need for their entire lives. Organization is not something you are born with, it is a skill that needs to be taught. When we teach kids how to organize, they become more successful at home, in school, and in peer relationships.

I am requesting a supply of different sized containers so we can keep all of our materials organized.

We share supplies, and many of our containers are old and becoming unusable. I would like to have new, clear containers that we can label for the kids to easily find and put away their supplies.

Studies have shown that the disorganization of the backpack, desk, or locker was linked to poor performance in school. When everything is tidy and when you’re organized, you are less stressed. Having all of our supplies organized can reduce anxiety and stress, and can affect educational performance. It is important to start practicing organizational skills early!
