Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to immerse themselves in good books. Living in the Bronx, some students only have access to books from the library and from our classroom. The problem is, more than 50% of my students are ESL learners who speak languages other than English. Our school is a Title 1 school, where 90% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students want to be lifelong learners and for many of them it begins with reading interesting books.

My Project

Our Classroom Library has many books of various genres, but with such a large ESL population many of the students are hesitant to pick up books in English. Your donations will allow me to put interesting books in my students' hands and will give them a chance to practice reading in their native language.

The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of and competency in authentic, meaningful literature.

In order to create lifelong learners and readers, my students need to be interested in reading, not only in English, but also in their native languages. Thanks!
