My students need areas around the classroom to comfortably read and complete assignments. Not all students can work under the same circumstances so giving them materials to work flexible around the classroom is vital.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hello! We are a second grade class made up of 25 unique students. Our school is located in the South Bronx. My students know that they can always count on school being that constant in their lives.
We are super eager learners.
They are very eager readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and historians. They rip the library apart on a daily basis as they try and locate their next reading adventure. They are always excited to get their ideas down on paper regardless if its writing, social studies, or math. There are future scientists in this classroom who will be very successful dealing with electricity or out in the wilderness identify different animal adaptations. What can I say? We are great!
My Project
In order to have a functioning classroom, students need to feel safe and comfortable in the room. I also know that all students learn differently and work in different ways. One way to make sure students are working to their potential is to ensure that they are comfortable.
Allowing students to sit on pillows, or milk crates, or wobble cushions will help them find a comfortable working environment.
I want my students to be as successful as they can be. That begins with creating a class culture where were are all welcome and ready to learn. Students will have the opportunities to find which flexible seating works for them and helps them stay focused throughout the day.
