My Students

Building connections between old and new knowledge helps enlighten and enhance learning. Classroom discussions help broaden my students' knowledge base about the topics and ideas we're studying. I love connecting current events {local, national, and global} into our discussions.

My students attend a Title One school where the majority of the population receives free lunch.

There is a lot of diversity within the school and many opportunities to learn from one another. My students range in abilities and languages spoken. They are diverse learners who thrive for knowledge.

My Project

My students need a Scholastic News subscription, a multifunction printer, and black toner. The Scholastic News subscription is the perfect supplement to our current curriculum! The students can work together to identify the connections between the curriculum and the news article, which can enrich their discussions. They're able to pull information from many sources, other than the teacher! The students can participate in group projects--drawing what they're learning on posters, designing anchor charts to display in the room, or creating poems and songs to show their new learning. If more information is needed, they can simply print other articles from kid friendly websites. Copies of the projects can be made so the students can share what they're learning with their families.

Thomas Huxley once said, "Try to learn something about everything and everything about something." It's important for students to be excited about the content they're studying.

The information and resources I can infuse into the classroom, the more likely students are to make those connections on their own and actually learn a little something about everything.
