Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I currently work in a Title I middle school. Since COVID has happened, there has been an increase in the use of technology. I have found that the students are more into their cell phones and social media, and less into hands on activities. Students are withdrawn and uninvolved with their schools.

I am looking to stir up their imaginations and have the students explore their creativity!

I want the students to form a sense of community and socialize with their peers more by working alongside each other to create some really cool, colorful and meaningful crafts that they can be proud of! Since we are going to be a craft club, I wanted to try and gather all types of craft supplies so we can look into the kinds of crafts that would be possible to make. I have seen many different types of projects including all the various supplies requested, and once we know what supplies we are working with, then we can plan accordingly.

My students don't have many luxuries at home. Most of them live in small homes and have to assist their parents with taking care of their siblings. I would love to make this craft club a place for them to escape their troubles whether at home or with their academics and just enjoy themselves.
