Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a 4th grade bilingual class made up of English Language Learners at a Title I school. My district is a low-income/high poverty area and the students are faced with many different challenges. For my students, Spanish is their native language and they are in the process of learning English. Some students have limited schooling in their native countries.
Despite the challenges my students face, they are curious and are hungry to learn.
They love to read and are excited to learn new things.
My Project
We need a classroom rug! A rug will be used throughout the day by my students. They will come to the rug while I teach reading, writing and math. By sitting close to the teacher, it will be easier for the students to pay attention and stay engaged throughout the lesson.
My goal is to foster a love of reading in my students!
Not only will my students use the rug during independent reading but also during small group instruction. They can spread out on a comfy rug while they enjoy a book. Reading a lot will help my students improve their reading comprehension and vocabulary development.
