Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The aroma of chocolate chip cookies baking in our little toaster oven wafted through the classroom recently. It filled my students with anticipation and excitement. What a fun (and delicious!) way for us to apply the real-world, problem-solving strategies we learned to study fractions. We also looked at the chemical reactions of leavening agents. My students enjoyed taking turns to complete each step of the recipe--for some, it was the first time they cracked an egg and baked it! My students would love to continue cooking in the classroom.
An electric griddle would be the perfect way to cook new recipes in our classroom, hopefully reducing the number of batches that we need to cook and allowing students to eat their yummy food sooner.
We will ask our families to share recipes from our heritage and traditions to grow closer together as a classroom community.
