Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting these items to start a science through cooking program in our school. I want to change the perception for my students that healthy eating does not have to be expensive or elaborate. I want to introduce my children to the chemical interaction that occur in baking, using yeast, the power of the herbs we are growing in our classroom. I also want to give them confidence to used the pots and pans to create something they are proud to say they made.

My goals for this project are to use the lettuce, beans, basil and everything we can grow to create dishes that are simple, but also flavorful.

I want to teach my scholars that very often they can recreate a dish they love to purchase at a fraction of the cost at home. There is also the added advantage that they will know what is in the dish.

My students are special because we are a transfer school. We give new hope to students that had turned their back on education. We give a lot of love to them and let them know they can become anything. My students' age ranges from 15-21.
