Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our 5th grade ICT classroom has 21 students with a substantial amount of students receiving special education services. They are a part of the Lower East Side community, one which is vibrant and diverse. Many of our students speak Spanish and come from immigrant families. The majority of our students are living in poverty, and especially need access to technology and quality resources to be successful in school and beyond.

They are curious and excited learners!

My Project

Our classroom currently has 3 old desktops and tablets I was able to get donated. We enjoy these resources, but we need more to assure that all of our students get important technological literacy. Many of our students do not have computers at home and do not know how to change font size, use the internet, or center a title. It's essential that our students are prepared academically for middle school, but they must also have the literacy with technology to type a paper or do online research (and recognize a good source from a bad.) The projector will make small group instruction more lively and engaging.

Chromebooks and a projector will open the walls of the classroom for students whose worlds don't always expand beyond their boroughs.
