Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school serves a diverse population of students and families with 100% eligible for free lunch. Many come from nontraditional homes, being raised by single mothers, grandparents and other family members. Language barriers can be challenging. In a mainly Hispanic speaking community, they all come in eager and ready to learn.

My goal is to ensure that each child is provided a safe and nurturing environment.

Each child learns differently. Being in flexible seating allows children to learn in a comfortable way to their liking to help promote learning.

My Project

Kinders are full of movement. Sitting in chairs at tables is uncomfortable for some children. Soft seat spots that can be moved around the room for different activities allows for children to rotate to stations, work with partners and groups without moving chairs around. It allows for flexibility and comfort while learning. Sitting on squishy spots also engages students to focus because they are not stuck in chairs or in one spot. Moving children into different areas of the room allows for the opportunity to work with different students while doing different activities. Kinders are full of energy and curiosity. Keeping them in one spot is like herding cattle into a pen. Flexible seating keeps things moving.
