Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have the best group of students, I have 12 girls and 13 boys in my classroom, and they are so full of life and an absolute joy to teach. We love our class family.

The school that I teach in is quite diverse with many different cultures and diversities.

Tolerance, empathy and compassion are important values that should be taught and reinforced. It is so important to elaborate, explore and show examples of what compassion and empathy looks and sounds like. Teaching character traits such as compassion and empathy through bibliotherapy are imperative for a well rounded education for young students. Once students have read the books and materials that are focused on compassion and empathy, they will apply what they have learned by using the skills in real world projects. Our school has a student led organization where community projects for those less fortunate are organized monthly to give students the opportunity to be involved. My students will participate and apply what they have learned through the books listed to solidify and reinforce what was taught. These books also often contain missions for students to apply what they have learned with their friends and family. I will measure success by whole group discussions and the amount of involvement in community projects. My students would also benefit with flexible seating options with a new chair. Flexible seating will allow my students to feel at ease while learning their academic and social emotional standards . Feeling comfortable in the classroom setting is imperative when learning new academic and social emotional standards. Having stools and comfy items just makes learning that much smoother. Most importantly at such a critical point in their lives and todays society , it is imperative that we teach compassion to my students through the use of books and flexible seating.
