A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am extremely lucky to be teaching students that are in a 6-8 grade Autistic Support program in North Philadelphia. These students are amazing kids who want to learn and be successful in life. These students are all working on different reading, math, and social skills levels.
We are working on being able to work in small groups and to be able to rotate to different work areas within the classroom.
We are also working on playing games. It is important for us to be able to play a game with a peer and socialize. It is an area we struggle with daily.
My Project
Having a lego set will help encourage teamwork in the classroom. The students will be able to work in pairs to discuss what they need to do and how to build the correct item. It will help foster their communication skills. It will also teach them the basic skills for a vocational setting.
The pillows will allow students to enjoy our library area and read comfortably instead of sitting on the hard, uncomfortable floor or at their desk.
The students will be able to read for pleasure and hopefully develop a love of reading. Having a comfortable area to read in is so important.
