My Students

Greetings to you all! I'm a 4th grade teacher in a self-contained classroom in rural Middle Tennessee. Our school is tiny (only 125 kids K-8)--I love that our school is small. We're like a big family! Working in a small school definitely has advantages and disadvantages.

I do appreciate the close-knit atmosphere our school has, but because we're so small and located in an economically disadvantaged area our school simply doesn't have the ability to provide the "extras" that other schools do.

Approximately 75% of our students are living in poverty. To be honest, part of my goal as an educator is to provide a safe, happy atmosphere...many of my kiddos just don't have that luxury at home. So yes, DonorsChoose has truly made a difference in my classroom. We have games, manipulatives, science tools, and more--and it ALL came from donors like you! We use something from DonorsChoose every single day! I can't imagine my classroom without DonorsChoose! My classroom is a place kids WANT to be--and I thank you so much for that!

My Project

This is my third year of teaching. Each year, I focus on improving one subject area by obtaining resources, materials, and teaching strategies to meet the needs of my diverse learners. Reading and science were my first priorities; however, I'm beginning to regret that I didn't start to improve our math curriculum sooner! Our textbooks are very old, and with our recently changed state standards I realize that I've got to STEP IT UP! First of all, I've registered for two math workshops that I'll attend over the summer break. I've also been searching through math catalogs to find innovative resources that will work for our new standards and that will motivate my students to learn! Some items I've recently purchased myself, but I need help from you to obtain these awesome dry erase boards geared specifically for math! Fractions, graphing, and long division are some of the hardest concepts for my 4th graders, and these boards address these skills and concepts.

These mathematics dry erase boards will last for many, many years to come.

Plus, other classes in our school can use them as well. (I'm a teacher who loves to share!) Please take a minute to look at the boards.
