My Students

The first year of school is a magical one! I teach kindergarten at a neighborhood public school in South Philadelphia. The learners in my classroom are diverse in experience, ethnicity/race, language, and culture.

Kindergarten is the year to cultivate and celebrate a love for reading!

My Project

In order to cultivate strong reading identities, we need GREAT books! This project will mainly fund the purchase of Fountas and Pinnel Leveled Literacy Intervention books. These books are designed for emerging readers. However, the stories are are authentic, interesting, and engaging to young readers. These books will be used for small group reading instruction. Furthermore, the quantity of books purchased will allow for students to then take the books with them to continue practicing independently.

In addition, this project will fund another working space for students!

As a result of the pandemic, the number of kindergarten students in my classroom this year will be more than normal! We need another table so that each child has their own working space!
