My Students

My students range from 13 to 20 years of age. They are boys and girls who speak a variety of first languages. They attend an urban high school within the poorest region of the city. Twenty-one point seven percent are English learners, and 100 percent are economically disadvantaged and receive free or reduced-price lunches.

My students need an interactive and engaging platform that supports all students.

Last school year, instruction was provided virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The students were provided with chrome books to enable them to participate in virtual learning. The district has paid for Google education suite that includes video conferencing and collaborative platforms. I also used the Nearpod application, which is not paid for by the school district. Nearpod provides an interactive system in real-time where all students participate and get immediate feedback.

I want to continue using the Nearpod application because it increases student participation and engagement.

My Project

All students will participate during instruction and get immediate feedback. Students can work at their own pace and make for missed assignments at home. Students' responses can be displayed on the board anonymously to support struggling students. Videos can be modified to include questions to check for students' understanding during a live presentation. The application supports different learning styles because students can respond in text, images, videos, or research from the internet. As a teacher, I can get a post report that helps me target specific students for support or reteach targeted portions of a lesson.
