My Project

Hot air balloons were some of the first successful flights for mankind. My amazing chemistry students will be learning about Charles' law this year, and by designing, coloring, and making tissue hot air balloons, they will be learning the concept of how increasing the energy in air causes the particles to move faster and take up more space. As the particles expand, the density of the air inside the balloon decreases, causing the balloon to rise as the cooler, more dense air descends below the balloon. Hands-on labs provide students with opportunities for real-world learning and the applications to climate change.

Your generous donations will provide my students with the materials to make their ideas take flight!

My students will use the markers to make original designs, then make a hot air balloon from tissue paper and glue, and use the hot air guns to heat the air to increase buoyancy and allow them to fly across the school campus! The paper plates will be the base for a separate paper airplane. The safety goggles are for protection during all labs.
