Let's Explore the Unseen World!

Help me give my students microscopes so they can explore cellular structures and observe the movement of chloroplast around the cell. Looking at the stages of mitosis in a wet mount of onion cells creates so much awe!

My Students

Our Bridges MS915 community is very diverse both racially and socioeconomically. Our students learn best while engaging in hands on activities. At Bridges we try to create opportunities for students to have real world experiences and connect the science they are learning in the classroom to the real world.

Our students engage in exploratory learning and during lab sessions we use apparatus such as microscopes and hand lenses, that are often used by scientists on a daily basis.

These tools allow my students to explore the microscopic world around them. Getting more microscopes will ensure that all of our students can have an equal opportunity and time to engage in the lab activities.

My Project

Throughout the middle school grades, we do our best to engage our students with similar tools and activities conducted by scientists in the field. Students observe prepared slides and also have the opportunity to create their own wet mounts. From looking at pond water, pollen, yeast and Elodea leaves, students gain a clearer picture of the unseen world around them.

These lab activities create opportunities for students who struggle with understanding the material in the textbook, to really visualize the concepts being taught.

This also creates more opportunities for our english language learners to have greater success in the classroom.
