Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an inner city school in Los Angeles. Our students are from various backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. Many of our students are English language learners (ELLs) with roots in Latin America. The neighborhood is currently changing, so we are developing a diverse population with many types of needs.

We are a STEM magnet that caters to unique and motivated students in Los Angeles.

Our children love to learn and constantly challenge us to meet their unique needs and ignite their passion for learning.

The school is 100 years old and we have multiple generations of students who have attended the school. Although the neighborhood is changing, many of the families remain the same.

My Project

We are well into our third month of distance learning and the students have adjusted well. The students and I have learned so much about technology but dearly miss the physical world. Rewarding the students with tangible items has always helped motivate the students to complete assignments and participate in class.

My students would benefit from tangible incentives and rewards they can earn by completing work and participating in class.

The students enjoy receiving novelty items such as small toys, scented erasers, and pencils, glow in the dark items, and other cute trinkets. These incentives will help my students complete their online assignments. They will earn incentives and stay motivated to learn and grow during online learning.
