My Students

Fifth graders are naturally curious and what better way to tap that curiosity than through science experiments. Our school Science Fair is fast approaching and my students would love to prepare a display board documenting their science experiments.

My class of curious fifth graders is packed with motivated learners who want to know more about the world around them.

We are a Title I school in a highly urban area of California where parents work long hours to make ends meet. The students come to school every day ready to learn and appreciate the resources we are able to provide, but those resources that the school can supply are fewer and fewer each year as the budget shrinks. Families are stepping up to fill in where needed but it is a struggle for them, too.

My Project

Our school had its first Science Fair last year and we would like to make this year's Science Fair even bigger and better. Students in the upper grades will be working individually or in pairs to conduct science experiments and document those investigations on a presentation board for display at the fair. The school cannot afford to provide boards for all the students, so I am requesting a set of boards so the fifth graders will be ready when it is time to prepare for the science fair. In addition, I am requesting a set of 10 dictionaries to help with this and other projects the students work on, since my classroom is lacking upper grade dictionaries. The students have progressed far beyond the primary dictionaries that are available.

Learning the scientific method -- observation, hypothesis, prediction, experiment, theory -- is important for my students.

The logical thinking that is required helps them in all areas of school. Please choose to provide the students with the presentation boards they need for their Science Fair project and the dictionaries to use as they edit and proofread this and all their projects.
