My Students

My name is Heather Lawnicki and I have been teaching for over 20 years. I will be teaching Spanish this is year.

I teach Spanish at a metropolitan school with diverse learners.

We are currently a struggling school. Our State Report Card lists us at a 62.5 “Meets Few Expectations.” Per the demographics of our school 64% of our students are students of color, 19% of our students have disabilities, and 56% are economically disadvantaged.

My Project

I am setting up a brand new Spanish classroom! I want to provide a warm and inviting place for my diverse learners.

My students come from underprivileged backgrounds and I need to provide as many supplies as possible.

The supplies and classroom support materials I have chosen will allow students to better work on projects needed for learning and create a classroom atmosphere that sends the message that I care and want them to feel at home. This also levels the playing field and does not ask families to make purchases they can’t afford. Children thrive when they feel like they belong.
