My Students

We are an inner-city school that serves a population of 80% free and reduced lunch. 35% of our students are ELL (English Language Learners). Like most children, our students have various study styles.

The students are anxious to begin using our new 3-D printer to enhance their STEM experience in our classroom.

The students have searched and researched projects for our 3-D printer. These students have never been exposed to this technology or these types of projects.

I am hopeful that introducing these STEM activities will kick-start many of my students to enter a STEM field in the future. Without the exposure to STEM activities at a young age, many will be so far behind that they will be at a disadvantage when competing for college spots.

My Project

We currently have a 3-D printer in our classroom that is need of a dedicated notebook computer to run it. The machines we have at our school are too slow to efficiently run the programs.

The funds for this project will purchase a dedicated notebook computer, so my students can experience STEM projects first hand.

The MacBook Pro will provide the processing speed to efficiently run the programs associated with our printer. Having a dedicated machine for the printer will allow for students to create projects without the fear of the printer disconnecting from the laptop. It also allows for the printer to always be available, versus waiting for a laptop to be free to connect.
