I am an elementary school counselor split between two high-poverty elementary schools in South Carolina. I deliver classroom guidance lessons in Pre-K through 5th grade.

The students in my schools come from a variety of backgrounds. Many of them have unstable and unpredictable home lives. Their time in school is their safe haven. I hope to ensure that their school is a safe and caring school in which their needs can be met. One of my duties as a school counselor is to deliver classroom guidance lessons that help meet the social/emotional needs of my students. However, we have very limited curriculum resources and we do not receive funding for our guidance curriculum.

I would like to utilize the "Safe and Caring School Curriculum" series that addresses the social/emotional needs of my students. It will help promote the following for my students: Awareness of Self and Others, Positive Attitudes and Values, Responsible Decision Making, and Social Interaction Skills. The series is research based and has proved to be quite successful in elementary schools across the country.
