Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Emotions and feelings play a huge role in the daily lives of each student in my classroom. As a special education teacher, my students need more attention to their emotional needs. This project is designed to provide my students with a safe area that would allow them to calm their bodies and to help them regain their focus for their school day.

Having calm and quiet areas available for my students allow for them to gather their thoughts, use calming techniques, and regain their composure to be successful throughout the class period.

This project is looking to add bean bag chairs and carpeted tiles to a corner of our classroom that would allow the students to decompress comfortably. Along with the seats, we will also have pillows that students can squeeze and hold onto for comfort. We are also looking forward to having the lighted owl to help guide our breathing. Lastly, hunger can create some emotional distress, so we'd like to replenish our snack corner to keep us full.

Our daily goal is to teach our students how to manage their behaviors and emotional distress. Creating safe and calm quiet areas allow for us to do more hands-on teaching that provides the students with techniques that can be transferred from school to home to daily life.
