This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in my classroom involves a lot of questions from the students and informal discussions. It also involves constant hands-on activity in small groups as my method of teaching is mostly project based.

My students are in an early college school where they are currently taking high school living environment in the 8th grade.

They are very hard working and also struggle with the curriculum and their study skills. Many of them feel that science is their most challenging subject, yet they truly enjoy learning through projects. Most of my students come from a Hispanic background and for a large number of them, school is the primary source of education. They rely heavily on teachers to motivate them and encourage them to love science; therefore, my job is not to only get through a curriculum, but to also show them just how fascinating and applicable science can be.

My Project

Teaching science requires a lot of visuals. Many of the topics taught contain organs, reactions, cells, and organelles that are impossible for students to see. Aside from worksheets and drawings, I strongly believe that it is important for them to have a model of what I am teaching them so that they can put into perspective what they are currently learning.

Your donation will help expand my students' perception of a cellular structure as well as providing them with a model of the human reproductive system.

Both of these models are of extreme importance not also because I will continue to reiterate how these structures fit into many topics throughout the curriculum, but they also provide them with a better understanding of real-life application.
