Let's Bring Color to Technology

My students need a color printer and ink to be able to print their work in color. Our world is in color. Shouldn't our work be as well?

My Students

Our students need to be ready to compete in the 21st century. They need the technology to help them keep up. The printer and toner requested will help us to be able to print and display student work in color.

My students come from culturally diverse backgrounds, and many do not have access to the Internet at home.

School is their only exposure to modern technology, and so I feel I have to give them every opportunity to use this technology. That means the work we do in school has to be printed so the parents can enjoy what their children have created. Our school community is from all over the world and we speak many languages. Our international population looks to education to help the children succeed and public school is the key to upward mobility. No one disputes the role of technology and the need to acquire effective skills. The challenge lies in our ability to find the funds to bring top quality technology to our children to level the playing field. The Disney Planet Challenge in support of environmental stewardship offers a powerful opportunity to give these students the knowledge they need to be competitive.

My Project

We are requesting a printer and toner to be able to continue to print student projects. Why do we need to print in color? Why watch a black and white television? We live in and represent a colorful world so we hope that our request for color toner is seen as reflective of both our work and our international school community. We have asked for the high yield cartridges which are a better value for the cost because they last much longer. They are more economical in the long run. I specifically chose a low budget printer knowing that the hidden cost is going to be in the ink. The students simply must have their work shown in color so that they can be proud of what they have created. We'll probably go through lots of ink because we send work home to proud parents, and we need to display the work in school to showcase all our students' talents.

As a cluster teacher, I teach close to 600 students in our school which is not uncommon within the City of New York.

Time is at a premium so having the right tools to maximize their time in my room is critical. We are implementing the Common Core Curriculum that has increased academic rigor while requiring us to provide the finest technology possible. We hope this can be achieved by bringing in a printer and ink that will help to achieve this goal.
