Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Teaching middle school is fun because students like to play games that help them learn critical concepts in a fun way; for instance, students love to play tag. This reinforces directionality and special awareness concepts. Also, they have a great sense of humor that increases the joy factor in our class and contributes to a positive classroom culture. What is most important is that they are eager to embrace challenges by conquering and/or learning from them. However, approximately 30% of students are English language learners. This means that our students need rigorous English literacy instruction daily so that they become proficient. One way to support my students in P.E is to provide books. This will increase exposure to literacy support and will help them take responsibility for their learning. This is why I am reaching out to our generous donors for help in buying a book shelf for our classroom.

One of the several critical components necessary for learning is exposure and access to content.

For example, if I expect our students to be proficient in English Literacy, then I have to have books and magazines that can be access in during the instructional block.

Additionally, I plan to put this bookshelf in the classroom. It will offer easy access to books, which enables students to explore and develop their literacy skills as well as reinforcing responsibility for their learning. A well-organized bookshelf also helps students find what they need quickly. Further, when students have temporary medical exemptions, they can pick a book that aligns with our current unit of instruction and stay engaged and productive by using their literacy skills. This will maximize the learning time.

This project will have a positive impact on students by increasing their exposure to literacy.
