My Students

I teach two 6th grade ELA classes in a self contained 12:1 classroom. I have a passion for teaching those who struggle with learning and benefit from a small class setting. Some of the students who I teach have developed a negative attitude towards school that I hope to change by the end of the year. I, along with the rest of the special education team at my school, fights everyday to make learning a positive experience for these students. We want our students to gain a love for learning and look forward to coming to school everyday.

My students are all very unique and require a lot of individualized learning techniques.

Each student has a different learning need, behavior management need and they have a range of abilities. Most of my students struggle with reading and writing, which their effects learning in every class. I strive to make my students learning environment a positive and comfortable one for optimum growth.

My Project

My students are in the same room up to 2 hours everyday. This is a lot for them to handle while also dealing with their other learning and behavioral struggles. By the end of the first 40 minute period you they become very agitated and it is a struggle to keep them in their seats and focused on the learning task.

Being comfortable in the classroom has a huge impact on learning.

From past experiences, I have seen flexible seating options not only motivate students, but have them become more focused and more successful in class. Flexible seating allows students to move around and engage muscles while staying in their seats and continuing their classwork. This movement increases the students tolerance of being in the same room for long periods of time. Please help my students learning by increasing comfort level!
