Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The urban public education system in New York City does not have infrastructure that ensures that middle school students receive an adequate offering of after-school activities and sports programs. At my school, the adults that work there have many responsibilities outside of their job description. I am now undertaking the role of after-school activities and athletic director. My hope is create a comprehensive offering of after school activities to spark student interests. I want to create learning opportunities outside of the traditional classroom setting and make school a place students are excited to attend everyday.

My students are enthusiastic for new challenges and opportunities.

I work in the Bronx, New York, which means that my students come from all over the world. My classrooms have representatives from 5 different continents and over 15 different countries. There are an immense amount interests and talents that are waiting to be unearthed. We need resources to make this happen.

My Project

At our school we now have a well established boys' and girls' basketball programs. We would like to continue this tradition but unfortunately many of our basketballs have gone missing. We need new boys' basketballs and cages to house the balls so that they are available for students for years to come. With this equipment many of our students both male and female will get the opportunity to play basketball.

Most importantly our students will get the opportunity to play on a team and learn lesson about team work, camaraderie, and commitment.

Athletics is a tool through which invaluable social and life skill can be taught. Through this team, these students will build stronger and more meaningful relationships with each others, their teachers, their school and their community. Our student athletes deserve a chance to play and your donation will be a part of making that happen.
