Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from a diverse background and travel a distance to attend our school. 95% of our students are on free or reduced-price lunch and all receive free breakfast. Our school is not a neighborhood school and students must apply to attend our school. However, we accept all students who meet the minimum requirements which are conduct and attendance in middle school.

We are a wall to wall academy high school with five academies.

The Health Academy students are able to job shadow at neighboring health facilities while attending our school.

Students are able to graduate high school and earn an entry level workplace certificate in a specific field of interest.

My Project

The dental assisting students will take samples of plaque and calculus from random students who attend our school.

Our dental assisting students feel that if the students that attend our school are able to visualize the plaque (bacteria) that live in our mouths, they would be more interested in their oral hygiene.

The organisms (bacteria) is what produces dental decay and periodontal disease. We will show students the advantages of good basic oral hygiene. After oral hygiene instruction, plaque samples will be taken again and we will use the microscope to compare student plaque before and after basic hygiene instructions.
