My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. When they come into my theatre classroom it becomes a world that has no restrictions on them. They are allowed to be themselves and understand that they will be loved here regardless of who they are.

They show me every day that what makes an effective teacher is someone who personally invests in their students.

These kids are hungry for someone to care about them and to help them see their self-worth. That is why I am in this profession, these kids need heroes and sometimes just sometimes instead of capes, they have chalk stained hands.

My Project

The items in this project will really enhance my students' level of comfort in the classroom and level of performance on the technical side of things. The lamps will help to create a warm and inviting atmosphere in my room that will help the students feel safe and willing to take chances. The monitors will help update our light board and give my technicians a better advantage as they design the lighting for the Performing Art Center's various performances and events. While a small contribution to my classroom and Stagecraft class, both will have major impacts.
